Description

The acclaimed debut novel by the author of Little Fires Everywhere

“A taut tale of ever deepening and quickening suspense." -O, the Oprah Magazine

"Explosive...Both a propulsive mystery and a profound examination of a mixed-race family." -Entertainment Weekly

“Lydia is dead. But they don’t know this yet.” So begins this exquisite novel about a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. Lydia is the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee, and her parents are determined that she will fulfill the dreams they were unable to pursue. But when Lydia’s body is found in the local lake, the delicate balancing act that has been keeping the Lee family together is destroyed, tumbling them into chaos. A profoundly moving story of family, secrets, and longing, Everything I Never Told You is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another.

The Lee’s world was completely engrossing. Beautiful written and I think a great depiction of the feelings of those who lose someone they love unexpectedly in a way they cannot understand or explain.

I love books like this, about family dynamics. How children are raised in the same home by the same two people, but they are never the same. And their memories, they are never the same. This book takes you on an adventure into a family that may seem fine from the outside, but you learn that everything is not as it seems. I love this author’s writing, making you see everything about the characters. Relating, but also mildly cringing at the choices they make and the lives they live and the way they speak to one another. Enjoyed it and read it in one sitting. Couldn’t put it down. I’ve read her other novel, I feel it has too many words, I hope that makes sense. It has too much going on and doesn’t follow through with several storylines that still had my attention. This one however resolves everything with a nice black ribbon, not pink. Certainly worth your time and your money. I love it!

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. It was very difficult to get through and EXTREMELY anticlimactic.
