Summary Best Audiobooks Satire and Parody William Shakespeare’s Brexit: A Political Sh*tstorm in Five Acts by Boris Starling Free Audiobooks Download Satire and Parody:

All Brexit’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. . . Written by the Bard himself, with a little help from novelist Boris Starling, this wonderful comedy of errors retells the tragic story of the UK’s acrimonious break from the EU, written in wonderful iambic pentameter.
From Cameron and Osborne, through May and Gove, to Cummings and Boris, this is a story of cynical electioneering and poisoned political scheming, and a most original take on the defining event of our time.
Featuring as hammy a cast of characters as ever graced The Globe, this is the perfect satire for anyone interested in politics, humour, or even a little bit of Am-dram.

‘To leave or not to leave, that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrag’d Remainers,
Or to take arms against a sea of Leavers,
And by opposing end them? To leave, to stay,
No more; and by leaving to say we end
The EU, and the thousand petty rules
That we adhere to, – ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. To stay, to leave;
To stay, perchance to leave: ay, there’s the rub;
For in that move to leave what dreams may come,
When we have shuffl’d off this Brussels yoke…’
BORIS JOHNSON

Miller originally called the play Those Familiar Spirits before renaming it as The Crucible. The word “crucible” is defined as a severe test or trial; alternately, a container in which metals or other substances are subjected to high temperatures. The characters whose moral standards prevail in the face of death, such as John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse, symbolically refuse to sacrifice their principles or to falsely confess.

The Crucible Audiobook Download Summary

Richard Dreyfuss and Stacy Keach star in this full-cast performance of Arthur Miller’s classic The Crucible, a central work in the canon of American drama.

In the rigid theocracy of Salem, Massachusetts, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town. In a searing portrait of a community engulfed by panic – with ruthless prosecutors, and neighbors eager to testify against neighbor – The Crucible famously mirrors the anti-Communist hysteria that held the United States in its grip in the 1950’s. A Tony Award Winner for Best Play.

An L.A. Theatre Works full cast performance starring (in alphabetical order):
Richard Dreyfuss as Reverend John Hale
Stacy Keach as John Proctor

Franklyn Seales as Judge Hathorne
Madolyn Smith as Abigail Williams
Joe Spano as Francis Nurse.

The Crucible is a 1953 play by American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatized and partially fictionalized story of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692–93. Miller wrote the play as an allegory for McCarthyism, when the United States government persecuted people accused of being communists. Miller was questioned by the House of Representatives’ Committee on Un-American Activities in 1956 and convicted of contempt of Congress for refusing to identify others present at meetings he had attended.

The play was first performed at the Martin Beck Theatre on Broadway on January 22, 1953, starring E. G. Marshall, Beatrice Straight and Madeleine Sherwood. Miller felt that this production was too stylized and cold and the reviews for it were largely hostile (although The New York Times noted “a powerful play [in a] driving performance”). The production won the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play. A year later a new production succeeded and the play became a classic. It is regarded as a central work in the canon of American drama.

The Crucible Full Audiobook Mp3 Reviews

I read this in high school and was shocked at what a group of people were capable of doing to hurt others that did them no harm. In 2018, I see it happening again in the witch hunt against the president and conservatives with the “heresy” of having different political views. It was a mob mentality in historic Salem and it is a mob mentality now. I don’t think this was written as an instruction manual but neither were
1984 and Brave New World yet here we are.

A masterpiece in the history of Theatre…how can one put into words all the feelings that come to surface when you read The Crucible? What makes it even more shuttering, is the fact that it has always been relevant to any era, because it represents the fear in front of something we cannot understand, and the need to create witch-hunts in order to cover up our own faults as human beings and as members of our socities.

John Proctor is the Everyman, he stands for every human being that is -rightfully- afraid in front of the face of an inhuman justice, being torchured over imaginary faults and mistakes. What elevates him to greatness, though, is his fight with himself and the way he wins it over, desperately battling to preserve his honour, his ”name”. ”I have given you my soul, leave me my name!” is the ultimate cry for respect and understanding in a society that has lost all elements of compassion.

I wonder, is our time so very different than those by-gone eras? Are we more understanding now, more open-minded? Do we find the respect we ask for? Do we earn it? I fear we won’t like the answer.

During the McCarthy era, German-Jewish novelist and playwright Lion Feuchtwanger became the target of suspicion as a left-wing intellectual during his exile in the US. In 1947 Feuchtwanger wrote a play about the Salem witch trials, Wahn oder der Teufel in Boston (Delusion, or The Devil in Boston), as an allegory for the persecution of communists, thus anticipating the theme of The Crucible by Arthur Miller; Wahn premiered in Germany in 1949. It was translated by June Barrows Mussey and performed in Los Angeles in 1953 under the title The Devil in Boston.

Streetcar Named Desire Audiobook Reviews

The actors are ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!! And the special effects, ambiance, & background noises had me hooked from start to finish!! I only wish there was a visual transcript because I was trying to follow along in my play script and there were lots of adlibs and improvisation so it was hard to follow along.
